Maggio:
Kirk
Maggio is a Baltimore, MD native who juggled two passions in
pursuit of his dreams. One, as an athlete, Kirk played
Quarterback in high school, was an All-American Punter at UCLA.
was drafted by the Green Bay Packers, and ultimately finished a
career as an all world punter with the Birmingham Fire of the
World League. Alternately, as an artist, Maggio never put down
the brush. His earliest influences came from the fine art
program at Calvert Hall College High School and a graphic design
and fine arts degree from UCLA. Today, his oil paintings
continue to exude a passion and understanding of the game. This
is displayed in the exhausting details and bold colors captured
in his work. Because of this, the Baltimore Ravens have
commissioned his paintings for each luxury suite of PSI Net
Stadium, including the Modell's personal owner's suite. Kirk has
also been commissioned by many NFL players and the Modell's to
create original oil paintings for private collection, and The
Baltimore Orioles chose Kirk to create their 1999 Opening Day
program cover: Kirk has appeared on several talk shows in the
Baltimore area, was featured in the Baltimore Sun, and has been
a guest on numerous radio shows. Maggio's work is officially
licensed with the NFL and he works closely with many charitable
organizations such as the Ed Block Courage Award.
A growing national interest in Kirk's work is evident in the
demand not only in his sports art, but in his portraits as well,
where he has received commissions throughout the country.
Technique and Medium
Artist Kirk Maggio uses the finest oil paints available today;
the same paint that many of the masters used hundreds of years
ago. All work is hand painted on quadruple oil primed Belgian
linen, hand stretched on heavy duty joined hardwood, and
protected with a mastic varnish finish. Each painting includes a
two inch linen liner and a museum quality hardwood frame.
Commissioning a painting in oil, with it's unsurpassed archival
quality enables a collector and generations to follow, lifelong
enjoyment, while continuing a time honored tradition dating back
many centuries.
