| John Yim:
Welcome to an exciting and dynamic world filled with powerful
imagination and realistic visions… Welcome to a world of pure
enlightenment, fascination and joy… Welcome to a world of
immense creativity and artistic splendor…Welcome to the past and
the present… Welcome to the world of Sports Artist - John Yim.
John Yim is a passionate artist with a great love for sports. He
is constantly striving to capture the essence and history of our
all time great athletes. John Yim is a Realistic
Expressionist…he has cited the likes of Leroy Neiman, Stephen
Holland and other renown practitioners of action paintings as
being influential in his development as an artist. The primary
focus of Yim's paintings are directed towards the sports
venues…baseball, football, basketball, boxing, golf, tennis and
the like.
Yim's medium is acrylic on canvas covered with a clear varnish
glaze to complete the work. Certain passages are heightened in
color and others subdued. Generally his method progresses from a
transparent film body of middle tones to an over painting of
opaque ones. Yim says "he uses colors in his paintings to
capture both the athlete's emotion and his motion. This is
accomplished by a deliberate selection of the adjacent colors,
utilizing a complement of an opaque contrasting with a
transparent effect. This permits the same color to be either
flat, a highlight, or an outline to describe whatever is
emotionally necessary for the intended function in the portrait.
Yim has also been praised for capturing both the essentials and
the idiosyncratic characteristics of his subjects. His signature
style is characterized by emphasizing a strong intensity and
powerful movement of the lines. This unique style effectively
presents and captures the athlete in full range of motion
thereby offering a true sense of visual reality. His work is a
striking and jubilant celebration of today's athlete and a
powerful reminder of the great athletes of the past.
Simply stated, Yim's style is truly unique and creative. He
offers the old and the new, the past and the present and
precision with imagination. The net result is a powerful
presentation of the truly great athletes that we have all come
to know, revere and admire.
From the legends of Walter Johnson; the heroics of Johnny Unitas;
to the incomparable Michael Jordan, artist John Yim delivers his
expressive style in rendering them and many others who have
thrilled and captivated millions with their unique talents.
John Hoon Yim, was born in Seoul, South Korea on January 21,
1967. Yim, who arrived in the United States in 1975, has spent
the past 25 years in the culturally rich Washington, D.C.
Metropolitan area (Maryland Suburban). Studying design and art
history at the University of Maryland, Yim's career has been one
of complete dedication to refining and honing his craft. Growing
up, Yim enjoyed drawing and participating in athletics. Sports
Art has naturally become the end product of two passions in his
life coming together. According to Yim, a great source of
inspiration comes from the client's themselves.
"The ones who grew up admiring players like Joe Dimaggio, Ted
Williams and Jim Brown love to share and impart their knowledge
and experiences with me. They help me to understand and to
better know the subjects that I paint. Sports' ultimate purpose
is to inspire and to entertain, and I in return try to share my
art with art lovers, fans and collectors the world over…" |
